In celebration of Nevada Day, Veritas Preparatory School’s third through sixth grades traveled to Carson City and Virginia City to learn about Nevada’s history.
Students visited the Nevada State Museum, where they learned about Nevada’s history and viewed local fossils. Students could walk through a recreation of an underground mine and learn about Nevada mining. The favorite exhibit, however, was the world’s largest Columbian mammoth recovered from Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
The group then moved on to Virginia City, where they toured the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum. Students completed a scavenger hunt and learned what school was like in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Students were appreciative of the opportunity to get out of the classroom and experience Nevada’s remarkable history firsthand.
