Brody Hughes, pictured right, an upcoming senior at CCHS, is currently interning at CC Communications. "I am using what I learned in my Cyber Security class at the high school with my internship at CC Comm," says Brody. CCHS’s Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Dr. Sue Segura, who monitors student progress with local employers taking on interns, explained, “I knew this was a perfect example of what Work-Based Learning truly is – transferring skills from school to work.” According to Segura, Brody is currently working in the IT department at the last county-owned telecommunications company in the U.S. He is working directly with former CCHS graduate Robert McConnell (2007) and is also finishing industry-recognized credentials for his IT certificate.
Another intern, James Kelsey – also a senior, is currently working alongside CCHS graduate Larry Burchard (1987) as a Churchill County School District as a maintenance and grounds specialist. Kelsey is currently learning all the aspects to becoming a hands-on industrial employee, reports Segura. “I watched as he tested the batteries that are throughout the county in our Battery Back-up stations,” she said, “As I walked out, I thought to myself. Yes, this is what Work Based learning is all about."
