Every fourth weekend in June (this weekend on June 22nd and 23rd), more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill, and service to our communities and our nation.
ARRL is the American Radio Relay League, the organization that processes licensing for the Federal Communications Commission, proposes rule changes relating to Amateur Radio, and fosters self policing of Ham Radio amongst many other civic and political representations.
Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event.
This year, the Amateur Radio of Churchill County (ARCC) will take over the south side of Laura Mills Park starting on Saturday June 22nd at 11:00 a.m. and work stations in other states and countries continuously for 24 hours ending at 11:00 a.m. on June 23rd.
Everyone is welcome to stop by and visit, and we will have a special get on the air station (GOTA) for anyone wanting to try out Ham Radio (especially the kids) and talk to far away lands. We will have two specially equipped enclosed trailers in the south parking lot as well as a number of remote field stations located in the grass area on the south side of the park.
We look forward to seeing you and introducing you to Amateur Radio.
