County Commissioners met Thursday, June 6th to vote on a variety of agenda items with several positive outcomes for Churchill County.
County Revenues: Sales tax for March was 6% higher than last year
DVI Office Secure: Domestic Violence Intervention renewed its lease with the county and will be able to provide safe and centrally located services for clients.
Hemp Growing in Churchill County: As the state’s applications for commercial hemp operations increase exponentially, Commissioners started conversations about creating a local county application process to help growers meet state compliance regulations and provide essential guidance.
Inter-local Contract with Fire Department approved: County commissioners renewed the contract between the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for wildfire protection and Churchill County Fire Department.
Fiscal Considerations: The ending fund balance for this fiscal year is reported at $30,881.099. This amount is somewhat higher than last year and dramatically higher than 2018, indicating stability for the 2020 fiscal year. (*Does not include enterprise and agency funds).
State and FEMA Funds: Over $600,000 in reimbursement funds are expected to be distributed to the county soon. Funds will help recover costs incurred while constructing the “Big Dig” canal project in 2017.
Water Update: Area residents can expect to see water levels continue to increase starting this week. While county officials and TCID are not overly concerned about the rise in lake level, some precautionary release is possible. With cooler temperatures, more than average rainfall, and decreased irrigation, water levels are being closely monitored. The predicted peak in water levels is Friday and estimates 2,500-acre feet in Lahontan.
Wildlife Advisory: Jason Sibley was reappointed by the Commissioners to serve on the County Advisory Board to serve with appointed advisors statewide. Sibley will serve for the next three years managing wildlife and advising the State Wildlife Commission regarding seasons and limits for Churchill County.
Commissioners also recognized Cliff Van Woert and Pam Powell for their retirements and years of service, along with the Churchill County 4-H for their Livestock Show & Sale.
