Book Review — This America: The Case for the Nation by Jill Lepore

Book Review — This America: The Case for the Nation by Jill Lepore
This America: The Case for the Nation by Jill Lepore Lepore, a Harvard history professor and author, uses this short book to detail this country’s painful and often contradictory past. She offers a short history of nationalism and how that differs from patriotism. She talks about why it is critical for historians to write about a nation’shistory, warts and all, which gives us a shared story. She argues that when this shared story is not told it paves the way for interpretation by agenda driven extremists. She discusses the history of liberal democracy in America and offers it as the path forward. This is an important book, packed full of history and ideas that tie many strings together to help me better understand some of the things happening these days that I question and have difficulty comprehending. This book is available at the library and can be downloaded from the library website through Overdrive. Carol Lloyd is the Director of the Churchill County Library. She signed up for the Summer Reading Program.     Never miss the local news — read more on The Fallon Post home page. Who and what they REALLY were. Because they were devotional and IMPORTANT to the humans they connected with. The content of their life bled so that others could feel their own life’s importance. Teachers of justifiable life and art. That all can absorb and use as the best fertilizer for THEIR lives. Giving the silent secrets and the loud guidance. The Melon Man was a perfect specimen for how to devote. His passing meant a life book of feeling/knowing what gives other humans their paths to Love and Knowledge. Some humans are meant to show others their paths. And in that they secrete ways to profitably exist.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 4:50 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon Man
