Letter to the Editor - Principal CCHS, Tim Spencer

An invite to parents to join the Fall Open House Event at Churchill County High School
Letter to the Editor - Principal CCHS, Tim Spencer

Dear Greenwave Families,

I want to personally invite you to our Fall Open House Event on October 17, 2023. I've made it a priority to host events that are meaningful and culture-changing. I've included in this letter details about this event and an additional brochure will be distributed shortly thereafter. Please know, it is extremely important to the growth of our school that you all attend. I believe you will find it beneficial.

Student Led Conferences:

  • 9th-12th grade Student-led conferences (6:30-8:30) provide students and families an opportunity in which students demonstrate responsibility for their academic performance by providing a review of their work for their parents/guardians. Example: Your student will take you on a tour of their daily scheduled courses and they (the student) will discuss what they are learning, why they are learning, and what their grade or proficiency level is at this time. Students will show their families examples of the work they have completed along with what they are currently working on.

***Please note, that this is not a traditional parent/teacher meeting.***

  • Parents/Guardians if you would like to schedule additional time to meet with a teacher you can request that during this event.
  • Freshman Meeting (6:00 - 6:30) Auditorium
    • How to be successful in high school
  • Senior Meeting (6:00-6:30)Library
    • Graduation
    • On track - off track
    • Scholarships
    • After graduation planning
  • Career Fair (6:30 - 8:30) will be located in the main building hallway. We will have some of our partners here to discuss careers, college, internships, and other important life-planning information.
  • Dinner (7:30-8:30) Location Cafeteria

*Dinner will be prepared by Chase Johnson’s CCHS Culinary Arts Students*

  • Dinner Ticket Required

  • Dinner Ticket
    • In order to receive a dinner ticket students must complete a Student Led Conference for all courses at the high school. For each class a student attends and hosts a conference, they will receive a stamp from the classroom teacher. That “passport” will be used to feed your parent/guardian.

Assignment Requirement:

  • As you all know we have implemented Employability Skills as part of our grading system for the 23/24 school year. Attending the Fall Open House Event will be an assignment required by all staff at the high school. To receive credit for this assignment your students will be tasked with getting their parents/guardians to the open house, conducting a student-led conference for each course at the high school, and turning in their passports for credit.

Summary/Goal:

  • A well-attended event that is meaningful for students and families
  • Opportunity to utilize the employability skill for something that is “real life”
  • Event to encourage parent support
  • Event to share what we do in a welcoming/inviting environment

As always, if you have any questions please reach out to me at 775-423-2181 ext. 4107

Sincerely, Tim Spencer

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud.
