Saturday, June 3 was filled with excitement for local families during the Churchill County Library's Carnival that kicked off its Summer Reading Program. Families were able to challenge their skills at any one of the 18 booths providing games from monster Jenga and leaping frogs to golfing and football toss.
Library Director C.L. Quillen said almost 250 children registered at the carnival for the summer reading program, and many more registered in advance. “You can still register at the library and on the library's website too. The program runs until July 31.” According to their website, reading earns the person chances to win a grand prize raffle item for their age group. Each visit to the library with their reading log earns them a free book and a raffle ticket.
The carnival was sponsored by the Churchill Library Association with all proceeds benefiting the library. CLA board member Rebecca Taylor started the event last year and continues as its organizer with the help of board members and many other volunteers. CLA board president Zip Upham was the Master of Ceremonies again this year, always dressing the part regardless of the temperature.
