John D. Caffrey of Auburn, AL (previously of Fallon, NV) passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

John was born in Montclair, NJ on April 20, 1940, and grew up there where he met the love of his life, Marlene.  John and Marlene moved all over the country and retired in Fallon, NV in 1999.  They remained in Fallon, NV until the passing of Marlene in 2019.  At that time, John moved to Auburn, AL with his daughter Carol-Ann and son-in-law Mike. 

John is survived by his son Michael, son John and his wife Teri, daughter Carol-Ann and her husband Mike, brother Richard and his wife Elaine, sister Ann, grandchildren Carolyn, John Michael (Elisma), Connor, Sean, and great-grandchildren, Gertrude, Willem, and Annelise.

In his professional career, John served in the United States Air Force and upon his honorable discharge went to work for Grumman Aerospace.  John supported the Apollo Lunar Module, originally designated the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), and ultimately the F-14 Tomcat Fighter Jet for the majority of his career.  He remained with Grumman (Northrup Grumman) for 39 years until his retirement in 1999. 

During his lifetime, John enjoyed riding his motorcycles, horses, his hunting excursions in South Africa, and most of all, spending time with his wife Marlene and family. 

John will be placed next to his wife Marlene, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA upon finalization of arrangements.

My friend John..we were in a movie together, "On our own" where he rode his Honda Ruin. He was a great guy to talk with and was proud to talk about his rifles..him and his wife will be sorely missed..
