Justice Court News March 13

New River Justice Court convened Monday, March 13, Judge Ben Trotter presiding.

William Stephen Mahaney appeared for arraignment on three charges: 1) Category C Felony of Battery that Constitutes Domestic Violence Committed by Strangulation, it is alleged that he “did restrict or put pressure on the neck of your daughter which impeded her normal breathing or her circulation of blood,” 2) Category B Felony of Abuse, Neglect, or Endangerment with a Child, it is alleged that he “did punch and or strangle your daughter, and 3) Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing a Public Officer, a Gross Misdemeanor. Mahaney requested an attorney be appointed, however, the judge found Mahaney did not qualify for a public defender. A Status Hearing was set for March 30 to give Mahaney time to contact an attorney.

Shindy Lisa Stohrel appeared for arraignment on the Category E Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine); and a Gross Misdemeanor of Manufacture, Importation, Possession, or use of a Deadly Weapon or Silencer, Carrying a Concealed Weapon Without a Permit, it is alleged she possessed “a pair of brass knuckles concealed in a small pocket in your purse.” Stohrel was also charged with several misdemeanors.  She was found to be a public defender eligible and one will be appointed.  Her arraignment was continued to March 16.

People are saying he is not the same man, this proves he is, he would have been open and honest if he wasn’t the same man. He judged others for their past, but wants to hide his. He knew he was ineligible to be a cop, he still ran. He DOES NOT HAVE 20 years of public safety experience. He has less than 2 years as a cop almost 20 years ago and then never worked in public safety again. Cal Trans is not public safety. The people that voted for him are too blind to see that he can’t be a cop, it doesn’t matter the man he is now, the laws are very clear.Comment publication date: 4/4/25, 2:31 AMComment source: Nevada Supreme Court Orders Removal of Esmeralda County Sheriff Nick DonderoComment author: BDHComment text: Did he while serving have a firearm on him after this conviction and was he prohibited from carrying one?Comment publication date: 4/2/25, 3:32 PMComment source: Nevada Supreme Court Orders Removal of Esmeralda County Sheriff Nick DonderoComment author: Ryan from EsmeraldaComment text: Great story.
