Book Review -- Savage News by Jessica Yellin

Book Review -- Savage News by Jessica Yellin
Journalist Natalie Savage had finally made the big time as a White House correspondent for a major television network; a goal she has aspired to since girlhood. The problem is that it’s temporary, as she is forced to compete for the spot permanently with a pretty boy/no substance/inexperienced upstart whose major asset is that he looks great on camera. The battle ensues as Savage negotiates Washington D.C. politics, gaslight harassment, office politics, and getting along with her producer.  We meet her family, attend her mother’s wedding, are introduced to the new man in her life and watch as she tries to balance the whole kit ‘n’ caboodle. This novel is satire at its best. The witty conversation is a plus. Yellin is a former CNN Chief White House Correspondent so I’m guessing she speaks from experience on more than a few levels. Carol Lloyd is the Director of the Churchill County Library and is a bit of a political and news junkie-assuming it’s possible to be a “bit of a junkie.”   Never miss the local news -- read more on The Fallon Post home page. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
