Three power outages last week were caused by equipment failures and a car crash, an NV Energy spokesperson said.

NV Energy Corporate Communications & Integrated Marketing Director Jennifer Schuricht said the first outage, affecting about 8,000 customers on August 1, was caused by equipment failure in a substation. Schuricht said the power outage lasted from 2:35 p.m. to 3:37 p.m.

It was reported at the August 2 City Council and the August 3 Truckee-Carson Irrigation District board meeting that a pelican hitting a power line near Lahontan Reservoir caused the Sunday outage.

Another outage on August 2 was due to trees in the line, Schuricht said. That outage lasted from 10:24 a.m. to 12:39 p.m. and affected 594 customers.

On August 5, the same 594 customers were without power from 3:28 a.m. until 11:35 a.m. because a car hit a pole on Soda Lake Road.

“We apologize for the inconvenience these outages may have caused our customers,” Schuricht said.

She encouraged NV Energy customers to sign up for outage alerts via text at nvenergy.com/myaccount. Outage alerts will let a customer know when the power is out at their home or business, provide an estimated time of restoration as well as updates. The outage map at nvenergy.com/outage also offers outage details.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
