On June 17th, 2021 shortly after 4 p.m. a 911 call was received by the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, the caller stated they were at Lahontan State Park on beach 30 and her best friend’s boyfriend, was drowning. The caller reported that he had been swimming to shore from a raft that they had been floating on some distance from shore when he began struggling to swim and went under several times and had not resurfaced. The caller estimated they had been searching for him for the last 30 minutes or so with no success and needed help.

Multiple agencies responded to include members of the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, Fallon/Churchill Fire Department with their Dive Team, Churchill County Search and Rescue, Nevada State Parks, Nevada Division of Wildlife, and NAS Fallon Longhorns. These teams worked seamlessly together and began a systematic search of the area. Members of the Fallon/Churchill County Dive team were able to recover the submerged body and bring him to the surface.

The remains were identified as those of 30-year-old Kevin Dustin Durham, a Lyon County Resident.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Durham for their loss.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the quick responses, professionalism, hard work, and dedication displayed by the responding units in this difficult situation.
