GOP Central Committee Report

GOP Central Committee Report

With Chairman Gary Smith conducting, the monthly meeting of the Republican Central Committee held February 10th upstairs at the Depot drew a larger than usual group. The unusual interest of about thirty five attendees was for the formation of an ad hoc committee specifically to further the enormous achievements of the four years of the Trump administration. Central Committee members named the new committee, The MAGA Movement, described as a home grown, grass roots effort to preserve and continue the four years of gaining back what they were recognizing as the America that they love. Their fears of losing all of that gain is happening before their eyes as the new administration is wiping out the many common sense reforms of the last administration.

There was discussion of similar efforts cropping up around the country and GOP national leaders saying this is the way for the Republican Party to go. The committee intends to work within the structure of the Republican Party, communicating and working with similar central committees within Nevada, the other states, and national leaders to recruit candidates, register voters, and get the voters to the polls.

Tom Riggins and Bus Scharmann were chosen as co-chair of the committee. There was unanimous and enthusiastic support for the concept which was the main event of the meeting.

The Churchill County Central Committee meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month at noon, upstairs at the Depot. They can be reached at 775-217-4640

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
