Carol's Book Review - The Woman Who Stole Vermeer

The Woman Who Stole Vermeer: The True Story of Rose Dugdale and the Russborough House Art Heist by Anthony M. Amore
Carol's Book Review - The Woman Who Stole Vermeer

A fascinating page-turner that is part biography, art history, an account of the tension and violence surrounding the IRA (Irish Republican Army) during “the troubles”, and an amazing art theft.

Rose Dugdale was born into extreme wealth, was well educated, and took up the cause of the IRA in Northern Ireland against the English during the 1960s and 70s. She masterminded the theft of numerous paintings from a county estate, was caught, tried, and convicted of the type of crime usually reserved for men. All to raise money for the IRA.

The author makes a good case for other robberies Dugdale may have been involved in around the same time but has never been linked to by law enforcement. Anthony Amore really knows how to tell a story.

She is most definitely a collaborator and is very well known throughout the state for her assistance as a Nevada SBDC business advisor, especially related to agriculture and local food entrepreneurship and systems. His mother, father, Karen and Trent were neighbors of ours in Tonopah, Nevada. We moved to Fallon first and then the Kroll's later moved there also. Mother and Wanda were good friends. My brother Michael and Trent were playmates in Tonopah. Mother and my three little children visited the family at their ranch in Fallon. My condolences to Frank's family. May you be comforted to know that I care and I pray you will be comforted by your memories of Frank.
