The family of Bula Keene, of Fallon, Nevada, is saddened to announce her passing on December 7, 2020, at the age of 99.
Bula Helen Wells was born August 19, 1921, in Los Angeles to her parents, Lawrence E. Wells and Vida Gard Wells. She graduated from John Fremont High School in 1940, and soon after, in 1941, met and married her husband, Charles L. Keene, Jr. After Charles' service in WWII, they settled in China Lake, California, with the first four of their children, Robert, Jeanne, Charlotte, and Donald. They moved across the valley to Inyokern in 1957, and two more children were added to the family, Barbara and Richard.
In 1978, after Charles retired from civil service, they moved to Gardnerville, Nevada, and then later to Fallon. Charles passed away in 1996, after 55 years of marriage.
Bula was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in many capacities, including Matron. She was an avid quilter and sewer her entire life, and she made many friends in the local Fallon Quilter's Club. She enjoyed reading, and the Fallon library worked to keep her supplied with large-print books.
She enjoyed her independence and only moved into Highland Manor two years ago, in the independent living wing. Until the lockdown due to COVID, she enjoyed the daily coffee klatches and getting to know her fellow residents.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, Jr., and two grandchildren, Connie Lee and Robert Keene, Jr.
She is survived by her six children, Robert Keene, Jeanne Wells, Charlotte Jockisch, Donald Keene, Barbara Garrett, and Richard Keene. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by all.
At this time, there are no services planned. Interment will be at Northern Nevada Veteran's Cemetery, next to her husband, Charles.
