Local merchants will take part in the traditional, nationwide celebration to support local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
This is the sixth year Fallon merchants will be participating, along with the Chamber of Commerce, the Fallon Maine Street Program, and the Churchill Economic Development Authority. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. with a welcome booth at the new Chamber Office, 448 W. Williams Avenue, where people can come get a coffee and a locally made “Shop Small” cookie when they pick up their Goody Bag.
“There are fewer businesses participating this year due to closures and other things,” said Lucy Carnahan, Director of the Chamber, “but there are businesses from across the community, not just Maine Street.”
Participants in Shop Small Saturday should pick up their goody bag at the Chamber which will be packed full of items donated by local, participating merchants. The bags contain goodies, coupons, and advertising that support the local businesses, along with clues for a scavenger hunt activity that encourages people to visit local businesses around the community and win prizes.
CEDA is also sponsoring their Gurkha in Business contest where shoppers take pictures of the Greenwave Gurkha when they find it in a business location. They tag themselves on social media to help promote the business and then win prizes.
“We do ask the participants to respect businesses and their COVID regulations,” Carnahan said, “Wear a mask and be aware of the store size for social distancing.”
She said she will be at the Chamber office until the 150 bags are gone, and then she will be visiting participating businesses. The day will end with a raffle held at Jo’s Stillwater Tea Room, where players can win baskets provided by local merchants.
“We are really looking forward to this event that has become one of the most fun holiday traditions we have,” said Carnahan.
