Members of the Fallon Maine Street Program, along with other interested merchants, met Monday night to discuss whether to dissolve the program or work to continue their activities. Although there was not a quorum of official members, attendees at the meeting expressed their desire to keep the group going and will work to increase awareness of their purpose.
Everyone in attendance at the meeting agreed to participate in the Shop Small Saturday event scheduled for November 28th and will use the event as an opportunity to increase branding and awareness of the FMSP.
The group will also work to get younger participants and business owners involved, as well as focusing on business spotlights, shop local support, and walking tours that include the history of specific merchant buildings. Additionally, there will be an effort to redesign the Facebook page.
The FMSP is part of a State of Nevada effort run through the Governor’s Office on Economic Development focused on main street revitalization that involves aesthetics, business creation and retention, and housing that will lead to a healthy and economically vibrant community.
Based on a “Four-Point Approach” developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the structure encourages local work on organization, promotion, design, and economic positioning. The Nevada program was developed with the help of the Main Street America Institute.
The next official meeting of the group will be January 11, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at which time officers will be elected. Anyone interested in participating in activities before then can call Lisa Gonzales at 423-8587.
