Monday morning, at their regular meeting, the city council approved an additional $280,000 from the Nevada Department of Transportation to be used by A&K Earthmovers to continue the final phase of the streetscape project near the William N. Pennington Life Center on South Maine Street.

The funding allows for additional demolition and improvements from Front Street to Tolas Place. According to Robert Erquiaga, legal and administrative director at the city, the increase of funding from the Department of Transportation allows the project to be completed on the south east side of the street, which is considered county property.

The county property would receive curb, sidewalks, storm drains, and gutters, alongside the city’s ground, and there will be parking on both sides of the Life Center due to the Department of Transportation funding the entire project.

The increase of funding was passed with a 2-0 vote due to the absence of Councilman James Richardson.

The council also approved the debt management and capital improvement plan presented by City Clerk, Sean Richardson.

Richardson said that the debt management policy included water and sewer fund bonds, general obligation debt, electrical systems revenue bonds, and equipment purchases. He also said the capital improvement plan would have a five-year cap starting the fiscal year of 2020-2021.

Both the policy and plan were passed with a 2-0 vote as well.
