Conviction for Lemos in Barkley Stabbing

Conviction for Lemos in Barkley Stabbing
Information from media advisory released by the Churchill County District Attorney --   On January 29, 2019, Carl Dennis Lemos was sentenced to prison for the attempted murder of David Barkley.  From November 5, 2018 through November 8, 2018, a jury consisting of 12 residents of Churchill County heard testimony from members of the community, the Fallon Police Department and Banner Churchill Community Hospital, proving Lemos slit Barkley’s throat with the intent to kill Barkley. On November 12, 2016, Lemos was removed from the Overland and told not to return.  However, Lemos did return a few hours later with a knife which he used to try to kill Barkley by slitting his throat from the ear to the center of the neck.  After being cut, Barley was able to restrain Lemos until officers from the Fallon Police Department arrived. Following the trial, the Jury found Lemos guilty of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon against a person 60 years of age or older, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm to a victim 60 years of age or older, and burglary with possession of a firearm or deadly weapon. On January 29, 2019, District Court Judge Thomas Stockard sentenced Lemos to an aggregated sentence of a minimum term of 308 months in the Nevada State Prison with a maximum term of 900 months in the Nevada State Prison. The case was prosecuted by the Churchill County District Attorney’s Office and was tried by Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Weed. Jacob Sommer was the defense council.
