Churchill County Does Not Meet State Criteria for Shutting Down Bars

Fallon, NV – Thanks to an on-going community-based testing effort and a relatively low COVID case numbers, Churchill County has not met any of the state-mandated criteria (link to Gov’s criteria/county release)  for closing bars and distilleries.

“This good news is a result of our citizens heeding the directives and watching out for their neighbors and friends by social distancing,” said Jim Barbee, Churchill County manager.

Counties that meet two of the three criteria defined by the State of Nevada must close bars, pubs, taverns, distilleries, breweries and wineries at 11:59 p.m. tonight, July 10. Those three criteria are:

•             Average number of tests per day less than 150

•             Case rate higher than 100 over the last 14 days

•             Test positivity rate of more than 7 percent

As of today, Nevada’s COVID-19 Elevated Disease Transmission Tracker (link to tracker) shows Churchill as having an average number of tests per day of 175.6, a case rate of 61.8 and test positivity rate of 2 percent.

“Thank you to everyone who is doing their part to keep our numbers down below these criteria thresholds so that these businesses may remain open here in Churchill County,” Barbee said. “While we recognize that more people in our community are being diagnosed, that is to be expected with higher test rates and as the virus moves through our population. We continue to strongly urge vulnerable populations to take extra precautions to protect their health.”

Along with Churchill County, Esmeralda, Mineral and White Pine Counties also do not meet any of the criteria for closing bars and taverns.

People are saying he is not the same man, this proves he is, he would have been open and honest if he wasn’t the same man. He judged others for their past, but wants to hide his. He knew he was ineligible to be a cop, he still ran. He DOES NOT HAVE 20 years of public safety experience. He has less than 2 years as a cop almost 20 years ago and then never worked in public safety again. Cal Trans is not public safety. The people that voted for him are too blind to see that he can’t be a cop, it doesn’t matter the man he is now, the laws are very clear.Comment publication date: 4/4/25, 2:31 AMComment source: Nevada Supreme Court Orders Removal of Esmeralda County Sheriff Nick DonderoComment author: BDHComment text: Did he while serving have a firearm on him after this conviction and was he prohibited from carrying one?Comment publication date: 4/2/25, 3:32 PMComment source: Nevada Supreme Court Orders Removal of Esmeralda County Sheriff Nick DonderoComment author: Ryan from EsmeraldaComment text: Great story.
