Elementary Summer School Update In an effort to ensure our planning and support to a return to school in the fall can be achieved, the district will not be holding formal elementary summer school this July. We want to ensure that we have time to properly prepare our staff, our facilities, and our other operations so we are ready for kids in the fall, no matter what the
return looks like. We are sharing an opportunity below for all of our K-12 students to engage in over the summer called myON--it is a hub of reading resources specifically matched to your child’s level (based on an initial screening tool). Please see the additional information at the bottom of this memo for more details. We encourage you to use that resource as well as any other materials that were shared at the end of the school year by each school. We also want kids to be kids this summer, getting out now that some of the guidelines have been lifted and people can engage more together. Explore nature, read together, try new and challenging things together. For students with an
Extended School Year plan, the office of Special Services has been and will be working directly with your family on plans for learning opportunities in July.

Back to School Fall 2020
The district’s staff have been meeting over the past two-three weeks, working through various options should the district need to return to school in a partial blended learning situation (for example, students attending school some days and working from home on other days). We are required to submit plans to the Board of Trustees at least 20 days prior to the first day of school for the fall, so time is of the essence. We will keep you in the loop over the next few weeks as plans develop. We also are required to submit plans to the board for the following options: fully remote, partial blended learning or other partial return, and full return with precautions. The hardest of these plans to develop is that for the partial reopening as we know that families, while able to support learners for the short term this past spring, will struggle to maintain that type of schedule into the fall as places of business begin to reopen. We have two partial blended learning plans to consider that district teachers, other licensed staff, support staff, and building and district leaders have been working through in the past two weeks to have ready should we need to use this option (we are still working to have a full
reopening if possible). In addition, the district is meeting with NAS Fallon, Churchill County, the City of Fallon, and Churchill Health and Human Services and the County Chief Medical Officer to determine pros/cons to each option as well as potential costs for these reopenings. Once we have lined out some additional details, we will share with families in the community to solicit additional comments. We are working with all aspects of the return to school including health and safety, transportation, food service, mental health supports, academic needs, personnel needs, and others to find the plan that will ensure the most safety and learning opportunities with the least restrictions. We appreciate your support over the last four months as we have navigated these uncharted waters! With that in mind, please know that we understand that some families are apprehensive about sending students back into the classrooms, so please check out our K-12 Full-time Fully Remote option below for the 2020-2021 School Year. In addition, please see the section below about the reopening of our ChurchillCSD facilities to begin to open our K-12 Athletics and Activities.

Optional Pathway for K-12 Learners this Fall—Our Full-Time Remote Option
We know that our families are diverse and have diverse needs. We also understand that some of our families have needs to ensure health and wellness of their families in these challenging times. At this time, we are continuing to develop our three plans we have to submit to the Nevada Department of Education for our fall reopening--there are still many questions and pieces we need to flush out to get more parent feedback on the way in which our in-person learning will look initially in 2020-2021. With that, we are pleased to be offering our K-12 students an opportunity to engage in full-time remote learning for the 2020-2021 school year. The elementary program is new to our plan, while we will continue to grow our opportunities in our MS and HS program. Both programs are competency-based, meaning that students can move at their own pace to demonstrate their competencies. Elementary students will be using teacher-developed courses based on our new Learner-Centered Framework and Project-Based Learning opportunities. Teachers will engage with learners live online, with short visits to deliver items at times, and through online discussions and other feedback opportunities in asynchronous ways. Our MS and HS programs will continue to use our Edgenuity platform to deliver content for learners to meet credit requirements and to grow opportunities to engage in synchronous ways with staff to seek help, receive new instruction, and to build relationships with teachers and other learners. If you are interested in learning about the guidance that our District will be using as we move forward, please refer to these documents.In regards to Phase 2 Reopening of Facilities and Activities, we have met with coaches/sponsors and are reopening facilities and NIAA athletics and school groups on June 22, 2020. Phase 2 includes opportunities for students to engage in workouts and skill development using a set of safety protocols and expectations. Next Steps for External Organizations to use Facilities
After we are able to stand up our K-12 Activities and Athletics and ensure that schedules are set for workouts, etc., we will release a date for our external partners to begin checking out ChurchillCSD facilities again for use. Please know that we will have expectations about safety protocols that will be implemented by the organization to protect participants and others who may be attending events. The target date for reopening the facilities to external organizations is July 15, 2020 and will be based on the schedules developed for K-12 use of the spaces as a limited number of participants can be on the campus at any one time. CLICK HERE to view School Facilities & Activities Participation Phase 2 Reopening

A Great New Resource Available to all ChurchillCSD
Students -- All ChurchillCSD students now have access to myON digital literacy resources for grades PK-12, at no cost to students. myON is a digital reading platform that enables students to read anytime and anywhere they want or need to read—in school and out of school. Instructions on how to access myON can be found on our reopening page bit.ly/reopeningccsd, students are able to log in with their Google account information. If your child has any issues logging in, please send concerns directly to Dr. Stephens at [email protected]. The district is finalizing log-in information with Clever, the app where myON is housed.
