The Fallon City Council met Monday and approved a parcel map submitted by the Robert and Muriel Kent Trust, creating two new parcels on the lot at the corner of South Maine Street and East Center. The action results in a total of three parcels from the original one, which has several structures, each served by separate utility connections. The existing structures will now occupy separate parcels and will extend east beyond the alley that runs from East Williams Avenue to Center Street, providing for the off-street parking required by municipal code. The parcels will be zoned C-2, which is a general commercial district zone. The parcel map also adjusted the boundaries of an existing parcel that fronts East Center and South Nevada Streets, and dedicated a public access utility easement to the city in the alley.
The Council also approved an application by the Kent Trust to vacate a portion of the alley that runs through the three parcels to provide for a public access and utility easement.
The City received a $30,000 grant through the CARES Act for the Fallon Municipal Airport, and the Council approved using that funding to hire Atkins North America, Inc. to complete a cultural resources survey for the airport. A cultural resources survey is a requirement to receive Federal Aviation Administration grants. The last survey at the Fallon airport was done in 2009 and is technically out of date. In order for the City to continue receiving FAA grants, a current survey is needed.
Atkins has been awarded an open-ended contract to provide engineering services for the airport, and they will use Broadbent and Associates, Inc. to complete the survey, which under their contract will be Task Order Number 10.
Chief of Police Kevin Gehman provided the May 2020 activity report, which showed a total of 422 calls for service and incidents. That is the lowest number of incidents in the past year, with a high of 997 last July. The most common crimes committed are larceny, and domestic violence. There were 12 traffic citations issued and 6 warnings, down from a high of 59 citations and 311 warnings in October of 2019. There have been a total of 157 traffic accidents in the past year, since July 1, 2019, with 11 of those last month. The animal shelter staff has provided service to 592 county animals and 655 city animals.
The police department asks those who contact their office to complete a satisfaction survey and those results were all positive. Of ten surveys completed most questions were ranked “very satisfied,” with only a three marked “satisfied.” One respondent stated, “So grateful for you all. Keep doing an awesome job. Thank you.”
