TCID Sets Water Allocation – Water Users Meeting Tonight

TCID Sets Water Allocation – Water Users Meeting Tonight
by Rachel Dahl --  The Truckee Carson Irrigation District board of directors met last week in their regular, monthly board meeting and voted to set the water allocation for the 2020 water season at 95% for the Carson Division and 100% for the Truckee Division. Water users can begin ordering water today, March 10th and the season will open on March 15, 2020. The Board of Directors will also hold the annual water users meeting tonight, March 10th in Fallon from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the County Commission chambers, 155 N. Taylor Street. Directors voted to set the annual assessment rate and levy fees that are assessed to the water right holders for operation and maintenance of the project at $47.90 per acre, an increase of $3.00 per acre, from $44.90. The minimum acreage fee was raised by $100, from $220 to $320 a month. The minimum acreage is 6.83 acres. Increases will begin July 1, 2020. According to Project Manager Rusty Jardine, the raise is an effort to compensate for declining revenues from the power generation which has historically supplemented the district revenue base. The district is currently in the process of procuring the transfer of Old Lahontan power station from the federal government. Gary Snow appeared before the board of directors to renew his lease agreement for three years. He leases ground owned by the district for two months in the spring, and the board agreed to a rate of seven cents per head per day, paid by the head every month. He was required to provide proof of liability insurance. The board also set the Carson Lake Pasture grazing season for 2020 to begin on April 1st, with no more than 1,880 head of cattle allowed in to graze. Bryant Behimer is the pasture contract cowboy, taking over for Norm Norcutt.       Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices.
