The number of incidents involving larceny and domestic violence were highest among crimes committed in July and August of 2019 in the City of Fallon. The figures were outlined in a written report submitted by Police Chief Kevin Gehman as part of the agenda at the December 2nd City Council meeting.
There was a total of 31 larceny events and 12 incidences of domestic violence during the two summer months.
In addition, 32 accidents, with 59 percent of them involving public property, were reported, while 114 moving citations were distributed.
Chief Gehman indicated that officers and staff of the local police department attended the following training held in August: 40 hours of Crime Scene Investigation and 8 hours of SWAT Team Range Training. Community relations activities included participation in Fallon Community Day at Oats Park during which approximately 57 children were fingerprinted and 397 youth received backpacks and school supplies. On August 5 one of the department’s detectives completed a one-hour indoctrination session with 17 sailors at NAS Fallon. A member of law enforcement also visited Little Lambs Day Care to speak with preschool children about being a police officer and when to call 911 for assistance. Finally, volunteers in police services (VIPs) donated a total of 83 hours to the agency.
In other business, City Council members approved a boundary line adjustment map at 1182 S. Taylor St. and 301 Tolas Place in Fallon, as requested by DC Squared Realty Holdings, LLC, and Tolas Place, LLC.
According to Robert Erquiaga, Legal and Administrative Director for the City of Fallon, the owners of the two properties have entered into an agreement where the owner of 301 Tolas Place has sold or will sell the back portion of that property to the owner of 1182 S. Taylor St. With the City Council’s approval, the Tolas property will be reduced from 1.32 acres to .84 acres and the Taylor St. property will be increased from .5 acres to .98 acres. Both properties are located in C1 zoning. There are no issues involved with this boundary adjustment, Erquiaga said.
During public comment a local resident complimented Fallon’s patrolmen who assisted her with an ailing pet on several occasions during the summer. Their courtesy and kindness was deeply appreciated.
Mayor Ken Tedford Jr. reminded those in attendance at the meeting about a number of holiday activities including the city’s open house on Fri., Dec. 6, beginning at 4 p.m., at City Hall, followed by the annual Christmas tree lighting in downtown Fallon at 6 p.m.; tours of the Douglass House across from City Hall from 4-6 p.m. on the same day; and performances by the Comstock Cowboys on Sun., Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. and again at 6 p.m., at the Barkley Theater in the Oats Park Arts Center.
Fallon’s City Council meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at City Hall, 55 W. Williams Ave., Fallon. The public is invited to attend.
