April at the Library

April 8-13 is National Library Week. Stop by and write a note about why you love the library and be entered into a special prize drawing. Visit on April 9 at 4:30 p.m. for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library as part of National Library Week.

Spice Club in April is all about sumac. Pick up some at the library desk, share your culinary creations on social media, and tag the library.

The library now has a seed library. Learn more about saving seeds year after year from the folks at the Walker Basin Conservancy on April 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Senator Rosen’s office representative will be at the library on April 18 at 1 p.m. for “office hours.” Stop by and let the Senator’s staff know what is on your mind.

The library has reading programs for all ages from pre-kindergarten through adult. Reading and discussing books together is a fantastic way to make friends and explore new worlds. There are:

• “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Library staff suggest and offer book titles. Recognition is given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups are accepted at any time at bit.ly/CCL1000BBK.
• In-person children’s story time meets on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Each week’s story time will feature the same content. Children’s Librarian Miss J reads picture books to children and offers a craft to accompany most stories. It is geared toward children ages 3-5, but all kids are welcome to participate.
• Reading with Rover also takes place on April 18 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence in front of a decidedly captive audience. Bonus: our furry friends are great listeners.
• The Elementary Book Club meets April 26 in the Library Annex at 3 p.m. for those in grades 3 through 5. Reserve your book to take home at bit.ly/CCLElementaryBookClub  
• The book discussion group for adults continues April 25 at 6 p.m. in the library annex. This month’s topic is “books about books.” Bring your favorite book on this topic to discuss and share with others. Light refreshments will be served. 

A new partnership between the library and the Churchill Arts Council is “Writing as a Candle in the Dark,” the supportive, irreverent, challenging, creative writing group you have wanted. Meets Thursdays in March and April from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Oats Park Art Center.

The library is located at 553 S. Maine St. and is open Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed on Sundays and major holidays.
