Movies and More This Week: 1950 western drama “Operation Haylift Showing Saturday

Your Community-Owned & Operated Fallon Theatre

Free movies this weekend.

Playing this Friday, January 26, and Saturday, January 27, at 6 p.m., each evening is the 2006 animated comedy adventure “Barnyard.” In this hilarious film, like all the other animals in the barn, Otis the bull likes to sing and play while the farmer is away. However, the carefree bovine must find the courage to be a leader when he unexpectedly finds himself in a position of great responsibility. Voices provided by Kevin James, Courteney Cox, and Danny Glover.

Our second movie both evenings, starting at 7 p.m., plus a matinee at 3 p.m., Saturday, is the 1950 western drama “Operation Haylift.” This film, a fictionalized account of a true story, documents the 1949 winter snowstorm in northern Nevada, which involves scores of cargo aircraft delivering hay to stranded animals. A state of emergency is declared, and the US Army and National Guard units from Nevada and neighboring states are called out. In the winter, many sheep and cattle experience freezing temperatures and deep snow dying of starvation. Ranchers seek the Air Forces' help in dropping hay to the stranded animals. A fleet of 18 cargo aircraft arrives at NAS Fallon to fly some of the missions to deliver hay to the stranded animals. Starring Bill Williams, Ann Rutherford, and Tom Brown.
