Local Youth to Fill, Deliver, and Set-up Sandbags

Local Youth to Fill, Deliver, and Set-up Sandbags

Do live on the Carson River? Are you over 60 and or disabled? Do you need help with sandbags to help prevent possible flooding on your property?

Yes?Then you’re in luck. Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as part of the Global Youth Service Day local youth are here to help you. They will not only fill sandbags for you, they will bring them to you and set them up on your property per your instruction.

Sounds too good to be true? Maybe, in some places, but this is Fallon, in Churchill County, Nevada and when someone needs help, there are people able and willing to help.

These kids are good, but they’re not mind-readers. If you would like them to help you keep your lawn furniture from floating away and your feet dry, you need to call the High-Water Call Center no later than April 20 to arrange for this free service. Their number is (775) 867-5923 and the phones are staffed on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Our local youth are participating in Global Youth Service Day. The program is the largest youth service and civic action event in the world and the only one that celebrates and builds the capacity of all youth ages 5-25 to help our communities and democracy thrive by working together for the common good.

Youth Services of America power the Global Youth Service Day with help from campaign sponsors, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Hershey Company along with program sponsor the Allstate Foundation and the Sodexo Foundation.
