The Churchill Community Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting Churchill County health care services, has donated $75,000 to help purchase a new ambulance for Banner Health Emergency Medical Services. The ambulance will provide aid to Churchill County, Fallon Naval Air Station, and surrounding counties and will have the capacity to transfer patients to larger hospitals with more services in the Reno metro area.
“Ambulances only last five years in reliable service,” said Banner Churchill CEO Rob Carnahan. “It takes over a year to build an ambulance from order to delivery, resulting in a new ambulance being ordered almost every year. Ambulances see extreme use in rural Nevada, often traveling dirt and gravel roads. In the winter there can be snow and ice and summer it is hot.”
In past years, the Churchill Community Hospital Foundation has raised money and made donations towards new medical equipment, nursing educational expenses, and its “Patients in Need” program which assists patients with transportation costs, medication co-pays, and more. The foundation’s main fundraising event is the Kent’s Cornhole Classic, played each year at the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival and Country Fair. All proceeds directly benefit the foundation’s causes with this year’s event raising $5,500 thanks to local sponsors and contestants from throughout northern Nevada.
