Teddy Bear Care Fair at Banner

Teddy Bear Care Fair at Banner
Staff report — Going to the hospital can be a scary experience for children, especially when they have no idea what to expect. The Teddy Bear Care Fair, hosted by Banner Churchill Community Hospital in partnership with Churchill County Social Services, Pinwheels for Prevention, and Churchill County Parks and Recreation was held earlier this week and was a great success. Children were invited to bring their teddy bear, stuffed animal, doll, or action figure to Banner Churchill Community Hospital for a pretend hospital experience. They were able to take their toy or “patient” through the admitting process, to the lab for diagnostics, through radiology and the emergency department all in an effort to learn that the hospital is not a scary place. Children were also able to tour an ambulance, enter a coloring contest, and were provided snacks. “Patients” received the very best in care from some of the community’s most qualified nurses, doctors, and health care professionals, including emergency, respiratory, laboratory, radiology, surgery, newborn care, pediatrics, infection prevention, social services, and the pharmacy. They were also able to meet the BCCH Auxiliary volunteers.
